There was once a superb shareware audio editing tool - Cool Edit from Syntrillium Software, there were a number of versions the best was Cool Edit Pro. This was so good that Adobe bought them out and is now marketed as Adobe Audition. Cool Edit can still be found try a Google search or check out eBay.
Adobe Audition - This is quite expensive to buy, however v1.0 is all we need for Digital AV, copies can be found for sale on eBay for as little as £10.
