1.2 Monochrome prints are defined as black and white work going from the very dark grey (black) to the very clear grey (white) with the various shades of grey. A black and white image toned in a single colour will remain a monochrome work. Such a work can be reproduced in black and white in a catalogue. On the other hand a black and white image modified by a partial toning or by the addition of one colour becomes a colour work. Such a work requires colour reproduction in a catalogue.
2.1 There are 3 categories in digital projected image league competitions and 3 classes in the annual awards for digital projected images.

3.1 All prints must bear the member’s name, category and a title for the image.

The picture area must be not less than 300 sq cm. unless one side is at least 28cm. Multiple prints on the same mount are allowed but must have a total picture area of not less than 400 sq cm. (If you would like your prints to be considered for the club's entries to external competitions, please ensure they are mounted on a 50 cm x 40 cm board.)
4.1 Images should be presented on CD or USB memory stick. (CD is preferred)
4.2 CDs should be marked with the author’s name, competition, membership number and for league competitions the category i.e. Entry Level or Advanced/Premier.
4.3 USB memory sticks must have an identification tag securely attached giving the same information required for CDs.
4.4 Members should save their images at a width not exceeding 1400 pixels and height not exceeding 1050 pixels. (Non adherence to these standards may result in the loss of part of the image or loss of image quality.) Should their image be less than 1400 pixels wide X 1050 pixels high then the area surrounding the image should be filled black [Set background colour black Goto Image>Canvass size Set pixel width 1400 and pixel height 1050].
4.5 Members should save their images jpg format and in the sRGB colour space ie:-
· In newer versions of Photoshop go to Edit menu, choose Convert to Profile - as this produces the best result, if a change is required. In older version of Photoshop go to Image>Mode>Convert to Profile.
· The Convert to Profile dialogue box appears. The second box down named "Destination" may show sRGB IEC 61966-2.1 . If not then click on the down arrow and select the sRGB colour space from the drop down menu.
· For Photoshop Elements users go to Image>Convert Colour Profile>Apply sRGB Profile. If the option is greyed out you don’t need to change anything here because sRGB is already selected.
4.6 Only one member’s entry of a set of images on any one CD or USB memory stick
4.7 For all league competitions each image must be saved with a file name in the following format:-
Membership Number_Category_Order of preference_Title.jpg
Eg 150_Entry_3_Lonely Tree.jpg where 3 indicates 3rd choice for entering
4.8 For all annual awards competitions each image must be saved with a file name in the following format:-
Membership Number_Class_Order of preference_Title.jpg
Eg 150_2_1_Mona Lisa.jpg where 2 indicates portrait class and 1 indicates 1st choice for entering.
Note the use of _ in the file name NOT - . This is to accommodate members using Mac machines who cannot save files with - in the file name. Please ensure that _ does not appear in the image title. If this symbol is used you may not have your correct title read out on the competition evening.
4.9 You must also add your Name and Image title into the jpeg file, for information on how to do this:
FOR WINDOWS XP
FOR WINDOWS VISTA
If in doubt please ask the Projected Image Secretary. Unidentified images or images not meeting the file name requirements will not be included in a competition.
5.1 Work entered for competitions is at the member’s risk
5.2 Members must adhere to the closing date for entries, which will be announced at club meetings and is published in the programme.
5.3 The original image or images must have been initiated and produced by the member but prints may be home or trade processed. If manipulation is undertaken, this should be the member’s own work or carried out according to his/her own instructions. Irrespective of the form of the final image, the copyright of all elements of the final image must be at the member’s disposal. This precludes the use of copyright-free material.
5.4 The same, or substantially the same, image can be entered a maximum of twice into league competitions with 2 restrictions: (i) an image scoring 9 or more points is not eligible for a second entry and (ii) where a second entry is allowed it must be into a subsequent season's competition, and it may be into the same or a different category or level. (This rule does not apply to non-league competitions, e.g. panels).
5.5 The same, or substantially the same, image submitted for the annual awards may only be submitted in one class and may not be entered more than once in the annual awards.
5.6 Members may submit up to 3 monochrome prints and 3 colour prints, or 3 digital images for each league competition and identify their order of preference. The actual number of images used from members in each competition will be at the discretion of the competition secretary.
5.7 Members may submit up to 6 images in each class for the annual awards competition and identify their order of preference. The actual number of images used from members in each class will be at the discretion of the competition secretary. All entries must be submitted with an official entry form available from the competition secretaries or from the website.
5.8 Members must enter a minimum of 2 league competitions in a season in order to qualify for entry to the annual awards.
6.1 Entry level and Advanced/Premier categories will be judged separately in all league competitions. No such distinction will apply for the annual awards, but there will be special trophies for the best Entry level mono (Novice Trophy) and colour prints (Frewin Cup). These will be awarded once only to any one member.
6.2 Entries to league competitions will be awarded a mark out of 10 by the judge.
6.3 Entries to the annual awards will be placed as 1st 2nd 3rd and highly commended in each class, and there will be special trophies for the best overall mono and colour prints.
7.1 New members will often benefit from competing at Entry level. Members with previous experience in other clubs may, at the discretion of the competition secretary, move directly to the Advanced level.
7.2 Promotion through the levels is based on marks obtained. Entry level members who score 37 or more marks in a season, unless there are only 4 league competitions in which case the mark will be 30 or more, will move to the Advanced level at the next season. Similarly, Advanced level members scoring 42 or more marks in a season, unless there are only 4 league competitions in which case the mark will be 34, will move to Premier level at the next season. Premier level members must re-qualify at the end of each season to remain at Premier level.
7.3 In any league competition, only the image with the highest mark counts towards the total.
7.4 In a league season with more than 5 competitions, the lowest competition mark is dropped from the total unless there are themed competitions when the score from at least one themed competition will be included as one of the 5 marks. This means that not entering into at least one themed competition during the season will earn a score of 0 towards your league total.
