1.2 The original image or images must have been initiated and produced by the member but may be home or trade processed competing on equal terms. If manipulation is undertaken, this should be the member’s own work or carried out according to his/ her own instructions. Irrespective of whether the final image is printed on light sensitive material, or on a computer printer, or produced otherwise, the copyright of all elements of the final image must be at the member’s disposal. This precludes the use of copyright-free material.

1.3 Monochrome Prints are defined as a black and white work going from the very dark grey (black) to the very clear grey (white) with the various shades of grey. A black white work toned in a single colour will remain a monochrome work able to stand in the black white (monochrome) category. Such a work can be reproduced in black and white in a catalogue. On the other hand a black and white print modified by a partial toning or by the addition of one colour becomes a colour work. Such a work requires colour reproduction in a catalogue.

2 Preparation & Presentation

2.1 All prints and slides must bear the member’s name, category and either a title or a description in brackets for identification purposes only. If intended for Entry Level this must be indicated.

2.2 All slides must be correctly spotted in the bottom left corner of the mount when viewed normally. Slide mounts must be standard 5 X 5cm format.

2.3 Prints should be on a rigid mount that can be any shape or colour provided that it is within the boundaries of a 50.8cm x 40.6cm (20” x 16”) rectangle and thickness from 1.5mm to 5mm. The picture area must be not less than 300 sq cm. unless one side is at least 28cm. Multiple prints on the same mount are allowed but must have a total picture area of not less than 400 sq cm.

2.4 Digital images must be submitted on either a CD R, CD RW or USB memory device, written according to the Guidelines for Entering Digital Images.

3 Entry to Competition

3.1 All works entered for competitions are at the member's own risk.

3.2 All entries must be handed in one week before the competition date unless otherwise announced

3.3 Members may enter up to a maximum of 3 monochrome prints, 3 colour prints, 3 slides and 3 digital images in any one competition, subject to any limitation the Committee may from time to time impose. If more than one print or slide in a category is entered, the entrant must state the order of preference in case such a limitation is imposed, otherwise selection will be at the discretion of the competition secretary.

3.4 The same, or substantially the same, image can be entered a maximum of twice into league competitions, but only once in any one season. The second entry may be into the same or a different category. An entry scoring 9 or more points will not be eligible for re-entry into any category. (This rule does not apply to non-league, e.g. panel, competitions).

4 Judging

4.1 Entry Level and advanced categories will be judged separately.

4.2 Entries from categories will be awarded marks out of 10 by each judge.

5 Participation Levels

5.1 New members will often benefit from competing at Entry Level. A new member who has competed in another club at the equivalent of Advanced Level may elect to enter at Advanced Level directly. Other members may compete at Advanced Level at the discretion of the committee.

5.2 Where more than one entry in a category is entered in one competition only the highest mark will count.

5.3 In a season with more than 5 league competitions for a particular category, only the highest 5 marks will count towards the season’s total for that category.

5.4 Entry Level members who score 37 or more marks in a season will be promoted to the Advanced Level for the next season, unless there are only four league competitions in the season, in which case the promotion score will be 30 or more.

5.5 Advance Level competitors scoring 42 or more points in each category by the end of a season will form a Premier League for the following season, unless there are only four league competitions in the season, in which case the promotion score will be 34 or more. Premier league members will be required to re-qualify at the end of each season.

Footnote If you would like your prints considered for the club's entries to external competitions, please mount them on a 50 cm x 40 cm board.
